We’ve had an amazing weekend at Future Cinema presents Grease. Immersive cinema at it’s best! Rockabetty Studios had an exclusive look into Frenchie’s bedroom and invited guests and cinema onto the famous bed for a quick snap.

This year I’ve really started to notice the struggle I face when trying to maintain a day job and keep Rockabetty going. So in February I made the decision to part ways with my lovely day job, must to the sadness from myself and everyone I work with and go full-time with Rockabetty!

It wasn’t a decision I took lightly, and my friends will tell you how I monopolised most conversations in the pub with a “should I, shouldn’t I” approach. I can’t guarentee straight away to earn enough as I am at my current job, but at the same time, if I didn’t leave I’d be forever in this cycle of constantly keeping my head above water trying to make Rockabetty work.

For those of you who don’t know, I am a teacher. It is a job that has suprised me in almost every way possible. I’ve learnt so much from both my collegues and my students. I will be extremely sad to leave but I feel like I’m taking a massive leep in the right direction. I have big plans for Rockabetty Studios, amongst other new ventures.

So…from August, I will be a free woman, ready to conquer the world one makeover at a time. The studios have been extremely busy the last few months and I can’t wait to see what is in store from August onwards. I’m back in my ‘Yes (wo)Man’ approach to most things. I want to get more involved in vintage events, networking with fellow businesswomen in the vintage scene and photograph things I wouldn’t have been able to do normally. The end of 2012 is all about opportunity and new beginnings!

I can’t wait!

“We’re gonna take over the World one day” We giggled as I fixed lights and Charlotte fixed her apron. It was a Wednesday afternoon, Take That Live was on the Telly and Restoration was getting Rockabetty’d.

I’d first met Charlotte almost 2 years ago when She booked the barely 3 month old Rockabetty Studios to take photos for her company; Restoration Cake. We were both equally nervous though neither knew, but it was a lovely day, giggles and cakes all round, and I left feeling cheerful and happy to have had such a lovely first client.

Charlotte was a like minded business lady, trying to juggle a day job along with starting her cake business in evenings and weekends. It was something I could relate to and I too was just starting Rockabetty and was unsure of how far it was going to go. Charlotte knew what she wanted from her images, mostly posing with her gorgeous cupcakes that don’t just look great, but taste amazing!

Restoration Cake is a beautifully developed business by Charlotte, making gorgeous works of art for wedding and events. As she writes on her website “We believe in beauty, love, and delicious cakes” and by god are they. Taking home a boxful of treats on the very first photo shoot, I sat with my parents, a bottle of Champagne and a red velvet cupcake each, and cheered to the first shoot of Rockabetty Studios. I’m telling you – without those cakes, it just wouldn’t have been the same.

Around a year later I got an email from Charlotte asking for help. Of course I said yes! A chance to work with Charlotte and Restoration Cake again was exactly what I needed. Having a bad year of loosing friends in the vintage industry, and loosing a lot of confidence in Rockabetty and myself as a Photography, it was an immediate confidence boost that my first client wanted more photos!

Three shoots later, each for Charlotte’s feature in Vintage Life, it has been brilliant working with Restoration Cake again, and having seen Charlotte’s business grow over the last 2 years has given me huge confidence for my future with Rockabetty.

Catch us every month at Spitalfields Market on behalf of Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair. The wonderful people at Judy’s put on the 170 stalled fair every first Saturday of the Month, and is deemed the largest vintage fair in the World!
